VIETNAMESE STUDIES

As a senior researcher of the Russian-Vietnamese Tropical Center Dr. Andrei V. Zinoviev has studied the aviafauna of the endangered forest ecosystems of Vietnam. For two years (December 2000- December 2001 and October 2002 - October 2003) Andrei has surveyed the following areas of the special attention:

National Biosphere Reserve Can Gio (Ho Chi Minh Province)

Forest enterprise Ma Da (Dong Nai Province)

National Biosphere Reserve Cat Tien (Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Lam Dong Provinces)

Protected forest Lo Go - Xa Mat (Tay Ninh Province)

Islands of Nha Trang Bay (Khanh Hoa Province)

Some other areas of Southern Vietnam

The most detailed studies have been carried out in Cat Tien (mostly in Nam Cat Tien); here the ornithofauna has been monitored through the entire year. On the course of research methods of dot and route counting of birds in the topical environment have been tested and elaborated; biology of rare and endangered avian species has been under the special attention. A good collection of bird voices has been recorded for the future CD-guide to the songs and calls of the forest birds of the South of Vietnam.
